Objective of this service
Provide clear understanding and practical knowledge to the learner to apply basic health and safety legislation in the form of standards and procedures governing health and safety in the workplace, to ensure that they contribute to a safe, healthy environment for themselves and others.

Course Outcomes
1. Identify potential hazards in the work area
The learner will have the necessary knowledge to identify potential hazards, how to either remove, reduce or report them correctly. Know what the implications of exposure to hazardous substances and hazards are. Identification of the requirements and correct use of protective clothing. Know how to draw up a safety plan. Be able to ensure all statutory requirements are being met.
2. Limit damage to persons or property in the case of an emergency
Provide clear direction that will assist the learner with practical knowledge to be able to identify different fire extinguishers and usage thereof, identification of locations of fire extinguishers, hoses and alarms within the workplace, and the reporting procedures of individual injuries to the relevant persons.
3. Follow procedures that apply to illness or injury in the work area
Provide clear direction that will assist the learner with statutory requirements for an incident report and practical knowledge of the procedures to be followed if an injury may lead to a claim for workman’s compensation.
Assessment of competency
Theoretical assessment (2.0 hours) and Practical assessment (2 hours)

The delegate that attends this course must:
– GETC NQF Level 1 literacy and numeracy
– Read and Write in English;
